Hate to be a dream crusher here, but this sounds like way too much work. If you have $8k kicking around, why don't you just buy a running WRX wagon, put a black FMIC on it, Impreza hood w/out the scoop, and call it a day? With an Accessport, an STi turbo, STi injectors, up-pipe and turbo back, you can make >350hp all day.

If you want a project, you can RHD swap the Legacy and use it to deliver the mail.

I think a lot of you guys are missing the point of the project. There's no stateside STI wagon, and old Legacies are lighter and cooler anyway.

Using STI underpinnings is a must, and as stated on Page 1, a donor car would be the best and cheapest route.

Legacy postal wagons are often for sale on the cheap, so there would be no need to do any sort of RHD swap, since you can just go and get it.

What do you call this? A 20 year old Legacy is cooler than this?

yeah I would rock either my old car or Mike's wagon before that. It's nice but it doesn't rock the sleeper factor.

1990 Legacy Wagon: 3040lbs
2008 STi: 3395lbs

Most of the weight difference is in the motor, 6spd tranny, bigger brakes, wheels/tires, etc, which is ironically the stuff you were going to swap over.

yeah. the new sti hatch is nasty. but also like LDadrenaline said... the sleeper factor is just cool as hell. and im wanting to paint it the oem sti blue with the oem gold bbs wheels. i think it's going to be a fantastic project. and im willing to spend all around 13k, 15k at most. i think that should be well enough cash to do it. im just doing the little things first. paint it, get the wheels, some suspension work, and do some interior work in it. im thinking to put in 2 sparcos in the front then 2 in the back. and gut it.

I wouldnt get the wheels yet (or at all) as they will probably come on your donor car and any ones that fit your current setup wont fit on the sti hubs... you are really going about this in the wrong way. You MUST find a donor Sti as Step 1...
