He definitely knows what he's doing, especially with Honda's.

I'm not arguing that you can't be considered a protuner. But I'ved talked to bcs and he doesn't seem like he has the experience to jump in a Subaru and have it tuned perfectly in just a couple of hours. He definitely seems to be on that path, just not yet. Once you can tune a good majority of the setups thrown at you, you receive good feedback, and your tunes are proven to be successful, you can then call yourself a protuner. Thats just my oponion. I consider Jeff to be a protuner. Many people have been successful with hit tunes, haven't actually heard anything bad about him at all. I don't feel you need a dyno to be a good tuner. Definitely a good wideband though lol.

Now that I think of it, could Jeff (snowman) tune big setups?

snowman has put in all the hours that scott is talking about, where I would think that bcs hasn't. snowman has been doing this for years, and he isn't a competitior for scott. you have to realize the reason snowman is so much less is because he does it on the side to try to help out the people who absolutely cannot afford a full blown pro tune. He has a very limited schedule in which he can tune so it doesn't make him as "user friendly" as scott (although he accomodates as much as he possibly can). The reason Scott's prices are higher is because it is his FULL TIME JOB. He has to make a living off of doing it, or else why the fuck would he waste his time flying down to tampa to tune people? You are paying for his expertise and many years of knowledge. things like being able to fix issues with descriptions over the phone, online with quick map changes, and on the spot problems (that aren't mechanical issues due to an impopoer install) quickly and efficiently.

In a nutshell, if I still had my subaru and snowman wasn't tuning anymore you can bet your ass I would have a SS tune. I wouldn't trust any other scrubs around here to touch my ecu.

So BCS925 spent more on his wideband than having a pro tune, and then spent a LOT of hours on it. It would have been cheaper and MUCH less time consuming to pay a pro to tune it...

I was unaware that I needed to have a tune completed in X amount of time.... whos car is it, oh yeah.... mine. Regardless of price or anything like that, you are saying that your tunes have no knock correction under some circumstance you didnt experience during the tune?

I think its funny that even LD admitted that Jeff (snowman) was doing it to help the community and then in attempts to defend SS said he is just doing it to make money. And he has yet to deny it. (sure he didnt mean it to come out that way but thats how I interpreted it ). Also SS I dropped my bit against you, I'm not in your thread any more. This is completely not involved with you. Hell the guy who I am testing against didnt even get tuned by you. So how about you go back to your garage go test out some timing tables and play around on your 100k dyno. Throw around some big dollars signs to make yourself feel better about what you are doing.

Everyone geez, this thread was meant to be light hearted and fun. At least we can all agree we are excited to find out how this turns out. 2 weeks...

The cost of the wideband may have been more in the beginning, but now BCS can have an unlimited amount of tuning by himself. Your cost limits you to a mere three hours.

But all in all there should not be a thread against you. If people wanted a tune for you they should post here, if they are for self-tuning and other people there should be a separate thread. I sure as hell wouldn't want someone barging into my workplace saying I'm doing a half-assed job, as all of us, so give SS the same respect.

Just to put this on a quick summary

The are alot of people out there that dont know shit about cars and should not even touch anything under the hood, let alone have the ability to change the parameters on the ecu. its the same people that think that a BOV is the coolest thing ever and think a wastegate has something to do with the intake.

there are some people out there that do understand the mechanics of car and spend time learning about the different parameters of them before making changes. its the careful ones that may choose to tune.

I reason i started tuning my own car was because there was no solution to tuning for under $700 and that was without a protune at the time when AP was the only thing out.
