Default Brake light coming on and off

I just came back from the supermarket and noticed the brake light come on. After a few seconds, it went off. This happened a few times. When I moved the car, depending on its motion, it would flicker on/off. I checked the fluids and they are on max. I checked for leaks and couldn't find one. I do have an aftermarket radiator overflow tank that did spill out some fluid, But I don't know what that has to do with the brake issue other than it being close to the metal brake line.

Any thoughts?

dude im dealing with the same thing. But i think its the rear sensors. When i did my 6 spd conversion in the rear i kept the stock wrx ABS sensors. I noticed the STI sensors are a little longer. Ill get around to fixing it one of these days lol, breaks work fine tho.

I couldn't help but laugh my ass off when I read this because (at first) I thought you meant the outside brake lights lol

The coolant overflow reservoir has nothing to do with the brakes, can't affect it.

Does it say "BRAKE" or "ABS" ?

Yeah, I thought the same thing just now. Its the "Brake" light.

I pumped the brakes and they hold fine, no feel of fade or pressure loss. I said about the overflow tank because it spewed fluid in the area where there is a connector plug. That connector is attached to the metal tube running back to the master cylinder.

I'm just having bad luck with this car overall.

Could be the G-Sensor for the ABS right under the e-brake. Never seen one go bad on an STi though.

I know my Legacy has 2 "BRAKE" lights on the insturment panel. One is when the reservior fluid is low and the other one is when the handbrake is engaged.

My brake light comes one like 5 min after driving.

Here is whats weird, ill pull out of the drive way, when i come to my first stop sign the brakes feel really weird. Pedal almost falls down when pressed. I pump the brakes one time and there normal. ABS light comes on as well. this is why i think its the rear ABS sensor because i never switched it over the the STI. I have the sensors but im lazy lmao.

I found the problem! It was some connector that is attached to the bottom of the e-brake lever. Apparently it got loose and started to shake around. That shake caused the sensor to activate thinking the e-brake was up.

Thanks for the info on this thread.

^no prob, glad you fixed it

^^ ryan, bleed the brake system... it is impossible that your problem is electronic; it must be an air pocket in the brakes. LOL @ too lazy... i feel ya man
