Default Vacuum Leak?

I have an 04 WRB WRX, 6spd conv, sti tmic, 3" turbo-back, perrin hoses, no other engine mods at present. I was happily hugging some curves the other day when I heard a "pop" followed by what sounded like a tire leaking heavily. Pulled over, no flats. Got back in and now I have a severe power loss. Stock boost gauge reads normal, but I keep hearing the whooshing sound and it's very sluggish. It sounds like it's coming from the driver's side and is only present under load. It doesn't do it if I'm revving it in neutral. It actually sounds like it's coming from the bpv, but i switched out 3 different bpv/bov's and it does the same thing. The tubes leading to the intake, and turbo look good as far as I can tell. I removed the ic and there were no visible leaks or unattached hoses. It starts about 2k rpm and stays until I level off the throttle. It only happens during acceleration, any ideas?

do you have a gasket on the bov/bpv?

Also, check the I/C hoses. If the problem isn't staring you in the face, do a boost leak check (do a search on Nasioc)

Yeah the gasket is less than a month old. I'm gonna make a tester in the morning, been trollin' Nasioc for answers already too.

vac leaks aren't fun tracking down. At least they are cheap to fix 99% of the time other than labor. Check your down pipe gasket. Thats my .02 b/c it only does it under load and you heard a woosh.. Something retaining pressure let loose.. Also inspect the line going under your throttle body that activates the bov. I had that come loose and it did similar.

If you hear a whooshing sound and you only have problems under load, its almost definitely a boost leak and not a vacuum leak.

+1 for Boost leak under load. Since you said you are making boost and hear whooshing then it's most likely post turbo.

Tip edges on the hoses are a little rough, but 99% solid. I need to get my compressor going tomorrow so I can check for leaks.

An uppipe leak wont make a whoooshing sound. It will sound like a smaller external wastegate, but open ALL the time

YouTube - 2002 Subaru WRX noise

Not to mention if it was an UP leak, it would make the noise revving up in neutral/not under load. Simple is saying he only hears it under load.

My guess is you have a vaccum leak somewhere.
