You don't necessarily need to be running more than 15psi to destroy gears, you just need to drive like a moron. Also, if he's hammering on the thing, there is a possibility that he MIGHT be able to hunt down M3s or 350s whose drivers suck.

Best bet on buying a turbo is to get it from either someone who carries a warranty or someone who you trust.
