I recently installed my egt probe. We used the hi temp threader on the egt bung and sensor in the threaded header. Bought new gaskets and tightened them all to spec. I checked all my hoses and everything. We keep just trying to re tighten the bolts, but I am not hitting peak boost. I think my header is leaking or something. Checked it to see if it leaks, but it might be so minor that we don't notice or i might have a very slight leak on my hoses. I have no idea. My boost gauge usually reads 19psi or so, but now it's only reading 16 psi. Anyone got any ideas?

 

do a boost leak test on it.....only way to narrow down the leak for sure and the easiest. Have you tried getting under the car while its running(take safety precautions- jack stands, goggles...etc.) and listen for the leak from the header. You could spray some soapy water where the header flanges seat and make sure they aren't leaking.

 

I tried that. I think it may be the egt bung since it is only threaded and screwed. Might need to weld it.

 

you would still build boost if that was the case with the egt i had a big leak before my turbo and still build full boost

 

Are you sure man. I don't think so... I dunno what the problem could be if that's true.. I was hitting peak boost and the only thing i did was the egt install..

 

sounds like the egt bung. I had a SMALL hole in my uppipe on the STi and the car was slow as... well, slow lol. Get it welded (don't weld the EGT itself)
