Before I even begin my little story, let me just say one thing: I respect cops, after all they are the ones we ultimately depend on in emergency and/or criminal situations.

So I was driving my bro's LGT last night. We stopped at a taco bell and as I was pulling out of the parking lot, I noticed a cop just sitting there with his parking lights on. I thought nothing of it and continued on my way. Seconds later my bro said to me, "hey dude cop just pulled out, he's following you" so I continued doing exactly the limit (40). Cop proceeded to ride my a$$ w/o his headlights on, then pulled to the left like he was going to pass me. Started to accelerate past me, but back off and pulled over to the right and started tailgating me again. Did this for about 500 feet, then flipped is lights on. I immediately put on my turn signal and pulled over for him. His stated reason for pulling me over was "illegal license plate cover." I know he was hoping for drunks, and I really irritated him b/c he had NOTHING. He gave me a verbal warning, but after I asked him for his badge #, he turned the warning into a written warning. I'm glad he didn't write a ticket, but I firmly believe he was acting very inappropriately.


Cliff notes: cop tailgated me, looking for a reason to pull me over and gave me a warning about the plastic cover over the license plate. cop was pissed that he had nothing on me and acted like a child.

although he was being an asshole, you are an idiot. If they harass you and give you a ticket thats one thing, but if they just give you a verbal warning shut the hell up and drive off....

 

i dont agree, i had a cop on my ass this morning i was a good 100 yards in front of him doin 5 over he caught up to me rode my ass for awhile and passed me if anything happened were i had to brake suddenly he would have hit me if he would have pulled me over i would have done the same thing jut cause your a cop dosnt make you above the law

 

a lot of times when they are that close they are running plates trying to catch the bastards who run non-registered cars around the street, get into accidents, and then either run or dont have insurance on the car so you get fucked.... I agree that sometimes cops can be assholes, but most of the times people just don't understand how they function.

 

Actually, that's exactly what I did. I'm not an idiot, I just don't appreciate being tailgated. Not only is it unsafe, but it shows a lack of driving skill. Again, I know the cop was hoping to catch a big fish--drunks, uninsured motorists, or whatever--and I know my near perfect driving record disappointed him. The whole point of this thread was merely to express my irritation and disappointment with this particular officer.

 

Honestly.....I would have brake checked him.

 

I love being talked down at by someone who MAYBE graduated high school. It's a fact that cops who get the chase-down duty are either fresh fish or are the retards who can't get past the first rung of the proverbial ladder. This guy being 30-40ish was clearly the latter.

And yea, the cop admitted that he was looking for drugs/DUI/etc, so unless the car is cutting back and forth, he's a prick and he knows it. This being O.K. is like saying a cop who busts your tail light with his maglight just to have a reason to be there is O.K. as well.
