Default Oil Leak in filter/plug area 02 wrx

Well, i saw some spots on the garage floor and I thought I had better get to work. Here's a picture of the evidence:

It looks like it's comming out of the filter area, as well as the plug. I had some problems with the plug before the filter. I think the filter just had a bad gasket in it, or I over tightened it?? I guess I'm going to replace the filter first and see what that does.

As far as the plug, is there a gasket I can get to put in between the oil temperature module/plug and the pan? That thing leaks.

i dont think there would be a problem if u over tighting the filter unless the gasket is pinched or u got a double gasket which means when u pulled the old filter out, the old gasket stayed on, or maybe the filter is not tight enough. and on the plug u need to replace the ring too. u can use that lil ring twice by just turning it around, but after that u need to get a new one.

Wow...

Use a new ring EVERY time. They're a dollar a piece. And please don't use Fram oil filters they have always been known to leak and drop oil pressure.

well i know they cheap but if u dont have the time to go to the dealer (like me) and get em,well the most simple way it turn them around. i use mine twice all the time and never leaks. after that i know i gotta get a new one so i then make the trip unless i buy a bunch of them.

IF you dont use a crush washer on the oil plug it will leak.

with that said dont use the generic autoparts store version of them either. I have one (could not make it to Subaru) and although it does not leak too bad. I have to retighten it every other week.

You ever get that car tuned? My offer still stands.

i ususally always use OEM filters. mike over at s&r gave me a mobil1 filter last time since we were taking off the fliter anyways and have had no issues with it thus far. I trust mobil 1 though, not knockoffs you find at autozone

Thanks everyone! I'll be sure to change the ring out and stay away from FRAM... I heard K&N filters are good?

So buy a filter from mastro? Do they sell the rings I'll need as well?

I'm running mobil 1 full synthetic 5w30 right now
