The general consensus about this is that the paint wears off with high heat temperatures, probably clogs the line and/or pumping devices, and then your turbo can't get the proper fluid to cool.

If you look at the pictures, you can see the paint starting to peel on mine. My car is 2002 wrx with 72k running td04 stock with mbc tbe catless up dp cai intercooler tubes turbo inlet-- the bad part is , just touching this part on the underside with my finger i was able to remove double of the paint than what was removed naturally by the vehicle. Scarry. Looking at a full blown dyno tune on thurs, that crap prob would have ruined my motor.

I'm going to sand blast the bottom clean, but leave the top black so it still looks stock. I personally like the black color, i think it looks right.

This thread is lost...but it took a positive turn that possibly saved me a motor and/or turbo rebuild. I don't need a tactrix anymore because I'm going to get a tune--- i've decided that a tune with dyno and shop is the best way to go. As well, I'm upgrading to a walbro 255 fuel pump

I'll have videos of the tune / dyno hopefully

i didn't paint it, subaru did. Now I clean up their mess.

The one thing I've found they did wrong. Not bad.

hey man, glad to hear you took care of it... I don't think that it would've immediately blown your motor, but I'm sure that, over time, that buildup wouldn't have helped. I don't know, though - I'm an STi guy

It's hard to tell from the pic of the TB mod -- you just made sure to hook together the two hoses that you removed from the TB, right?

Looking forward to seeing you come to Sarasota sometime!

Welcome to the club, btw

Thanks for helping out with the radiator lid pictured above. This is the other guy that saved my motor... Everyone that reads this thread should add to both of their reputations, because they went out of their way to help save my motor before it gets tuned. Thanks again for the support guys, I look forward to meeting up and working on the cars.

Here's the finished product!
