Default advice???

looking to get into a WRX non-STI (too poor)...any advice on which year WRX to avoid....i have heard that the tranny on the 02's are not the strongest and to get an 04 and up?

IIRC,late 03's+ got the RA width gears (1mm wider) and there weren't really any other changes between the years.

I'd go for a late 03+ if I were you.

theyre a little wider, but still not really that much better. if you are really worried about the transmission save for another 6 months or so and get an sti.

The 03 trans are weaker then 05's

I've seen countless individuals post this,but I've yet to see any proof.

I do know that alot of the 06 WRX transmissions like to shatter a gear or two.

i would go for a late 03 if it were me. well i did get a late 03 but its the best car you can get in the states besides the STi. and if you like to spend money just do a full sti swap

2005 is the best year wrx imo, I have owned a 04 and 05 and my girl has a 03.

i've searched and searched and the lowest STI are going for $19K and up...just don't got that sort of cash laying around...guess i can get a loan for the rest but payments suck...looks like i am looking at a late 03 and up...don't plan to heavily modding it out...thanks guys

how bout just buy a cheap rs and do a complete sti swap

06+ = torque, 2.5L .. the big controversy is all on how you drive the car as well. whether you beat the hell out of it and launch it or drive it intending it to last. i understand sh*t happens but the way you drive still takes a big role
