i want to run drag radials when my car goes back on the road.... so i was wondering if the driveshaft shops axle bar upgrades would good enough to run with my setup with drag radials?

The DSS STi axles are pretty serious, but I'd say that repeated blasts from 400+hp and side-steps will still get them to fail. How much power/how often are you planning on doing this?

well, I put it this way. You don't have much choice. I've seen numerous DSS stage 5's break with 400whp (be it on a mustang)...regardless, its far from 1000 that they claim.

The other choice you have is 2k per set of axles

Just FYI, we subies blow up lots more rear CV's than fronts...Mitch is still shredding his stockers at 800whp as we've discussed real options for putting power to the ground. I think he's saving up $4k.

i dont have any experience with their axles personally (or know anyone that does on a performance basis), but you could look into Gator Racing Axles. I know Gator personally and hes an awesome guy, so I'm sure he could help you in making something you need. But other than that, I don't have a clue.

I've got the jig for my R200 subframe almost done... PM me and we'll talk if you think that would help at all.

DSS uses a couple of "assisters" to clain the 1000hp, mainly being in a controlled environment like SolidWorks and running FEA testing on the conceptual model rather than just trying to build them big and seeing what holds (cough, Moser Engineering). They also expect you to be loading up the transmission and axles rather than just dumping the clutch with a 2-step or something. I can see them taking 1000hp if the initial acceleration and launch shock is not part of the equation, but it is.

yeah, I know the DSS guys are very much the typical engineering and believe the paper and preach it like the truth. I'm a mechanical engineer and know that paper only gets you in the ball park.

two of the blown axles I've seen were both preloaded launches.

I would however be extremely interested in going to R200 as would two of my friends. It's been on my back burner as I'd planned to see how far a cryo'd r180 would go.

well HP isnt what brakes the axles anyway, its the torque. So they probably can take 1000hp easily. But 1000 torque on the otherhand. . .

well, yes I know...that is one thing I HATE about the industry is that they rate it in a matter that doesn't apply...unless they give an RPM with it

of course even then given tq rating from an engine would then be useless without the rest of the drivetrain info...so I just want the tortional modulus of elasticity for the given axle...past that its is just fatigued and slowly heading to ultimate yield point (breaking).
