Default Does it make a difference...

Does it make a difference where I get my flywheel resurfaced? It seems any auto parts store, machine shop, or trans/clutch specialty shop can do it.

Also, kudos to Ryan_west06 for doing a great job pulling my transmission. I found him to be very methodical, very organized & detail oriented, and very patient. Ryan will save you money is a pleasure to work with.

Also, what is a good price for resurfacing a flywheel and what would be considered over-charging?

Thanks!

Subaru does not recommend to resurface flywheels. The resurfaced flywheels had problems with cracking and failing. Just spend the extra money and get a new one. No use skimping the corners on such a heavily modified car.

Flywheels revisited - *can* we resurface? - Transmission (AT/MT) & Driveline - NASIOC

resurface, not cut...

I can't seem to get a straight answer. Some Subaru dealers resurface them, some do not.

ive always been told not to do them. i did not resurface mine when i had my clutch installed and had no issues. i was told by PDX tuning to just hit it a little with some sandpaper.

Resurfacing an OEM 2006 WRX flywheel - Transmission (AT/MT) & Driveline - NASIOC

Found this too.

This is confusing.

I should mention that this will be the third clutch on this flywheel without a resurface or replacement. I took the stocker off at 10,000 miles just becasue I knew it would not hold the added power. I did not resurface then. Then I went through this 6-puck pretty quick, in 8,000 miles. The wheel is smooth and un-cracked or scored, it is just very blued & smuged.

Anybody else resurface the stocker or does everyone on TR just buy a new flywheel or not resurface at all?

Thanks

Thanks for the rep steve. It was awesome helping you out! tell the wifey, thanks for the food!!

Your car is sick man, id like to run it when i throw my VF on!

Also, id just buy a new flywheel. I think you would feel more confident knowing its brand new.

Keep me posted.

Hey Ryan,

I caved and bought the ACT Streetlite. It wil be here Monday with the clutch and will save 4 lbs off the stocker. I hope it makes a difference for an extra $300 into this project.

You are welcome for the + rep. You earned it. I look forward to finishing the job with you next weekend.
