Default Stock Air box power level?

Hey guys, anyone ever made 300-350whp with the stock air box (k&n filter)? I have removed the silencer thing and replaced it with the Rallitek elbow. I am curious how much power can be made through it. I am not looking for big power, I just want to be able to make upwards of 350whp.

Ive seen people say its good for upper 300's, but has anyone done it?

I dont want to get an after market intake, and I'm willing to leave a few ponnies on the table.

I think it should be fine for at least 300 wheel. I mean, a stg2 STI is just around 300. Higher up it becomes more of a power constrictor, but not really sure how much. May not be too bad at your level, but of course somewhere around 400+ to the wheels it would contrict quite a bit

its not a question of whether I should do it or not. Im thinking Im gonna be in the 325-350whp area so I am toying with staying with the stock box because I just love stock stuff. I just want to know what the max power levels are for the box or stock location maf.

MugenR,

Looks like the SWRC uses an airbox of mutated form... you will be fine with the stocker.

I don't think your engine minds trying to breath through a straw all day long . Engines don't have feelings.

But seriously, read this. Here is some constructive feedback to your question.

Intake FAQ: Read if you are thinking of buying one! - Newbies & FAQs - NASIOC

You are good to 400 HP with the stocker.

I am on a hacked intake and i dont see the intake itself having restrictions but rather the size of the maf housing being the determinate of power.

I have hit 285g/s at redline and just as a referance the max is about 300 before the maf voltage is 5volts.

I would say my car should be somewhere around 300whp.

stock intake is fine for around 320whp after that 70mm is better

Personally I think the fact that is breathes through the fender hole is its main restriction...I'd open a hole in the bottom of the box on the wheel well side to allow better/less restricted flow to the filter (just cut an opening)...I would recommend changing inlet pipe and accordian section of the intake though.
I would change it though BECAUSE, the harder the engine has to breath (known as pumping losses) the lower your volumetric efficiencies (amount of air getting into the motor) the lower your power...also with lower VE and larger pumping losses, the more lag you will have The larger the filter area, the lower your restriction on breathing.

You can't compare the wrc car to his at all and please don't get me started as to why not.

I made over 330 to the tire with the stock airbox.

I think the stock air box rocks.
