Default Is my motor gone?

I've got an 03' WRX w/ 92K w/ a P&P Td-04, catless dp and otherwise stock. I noticed that I have been burning oil lately (a quart every thousand miles of Royal Purple 10w-40) but just today I noticed there was a lot of smoke out of the tailpipe. It has never smoked before today but then again I can't really see what's coming out of the tailpipe while I'm driving though. The car runs great and pulls very hard. I'm going to be doing a compression check next weekend to see what's going on but do guys think it might just be the Royal Purple or should I start saving for a new sb?

Oh, the turbo has only 2K miles on it. Also for the first 66K the original owner used 5w-30 which in Florida seems like its too thin.

10w-40 is way to heavy for factory motor...do a compression check but get the block to operating temp first...then quickly do it...yes, it will be hot but will give more realistic results. A leakdown test would be best though.
I wouldn't be suprised if the turbo's rear oil seal was shot.

I've read on nasioc and even in the owners manual it says that for hot weather/heavy loads 10w-40 was better to run. It seems like a lot of spun bearings are happening when people run 5w-30.
