sti is a better platform to start off with. standard brembo brakes, 17" alloys, 6spd with DCCD, RE070s, vf39, and 2.5L

wrxs upgraded brakes in 06, but still not to STI specs. Also changed to 17" in 06. Has always had the 5spd, 05 was probably strongest when they still had the 3.90, 06+ has the 3.70. All WRXs have the crap re92 tires. all WRXs have the shitty little td04. 02-05 WRXs have he 2.0L, 06+ has the EJ255 2.5L. 05+ WRXs and all STIs have two cats in the downpipe. 04- WRXs also had a cat in the uppipe which was a nice long install to replace it. 05+ WRX has newer interior, 06+ has black and silver seats (compared to all black). 06+ has smaller intercooler (dealer told me that it is thicker, but it didnt really seem to be to me), not really a *huge* deal though.

well i'm using my jeep as my daily driver now but i also have a few mustangs and my s14 240 but i'm looking into the wrx's i like that body style for some reason. and with the money i would save from getting it instead of the sti i could do quite a bit more.

well if you get an 02-03 wrx you are going to have to replace the tranny, thats a given. and depending on how good you are at finding parts that will cost from $2.5k-$6k.

Yes and no...if you plan to make huge horsepower and you drive like a maniac, yes. If you just want to have it and toy around every once in awhile maybe not. I have an 03 with a 2.5 swap on a stock tranny and I haven't had problem one. But I haven't hit anything higher than 8-10 PSI in over a month and then maybe 2 months before that.

With that said, I have a tranny fund going just in case anything does break. But, thats totally based on everyone elses experiences and not mine. Better to be safe than sorry.

I hope you mean front end...because from the firewall south they are pretty much the same...having that said you could easily do a front end conversion but maybe that's not you...whatever you do think it through...if you have a ton of free time check out
