Default Manual Boost Controller

I have an 03' WRX and I'm having boost issues where I constantly get surge in 3rd, 4th and 5th gears. I tried swapping out factory boost control solenoids and it didn't seem to help, so I was thinking of buying the Perrin MBC and setting it for stock boost levels (or maybe 16 lbs at absolute most). I am running stock EM, have a P&P TD-04, 3 inch TBE (catless) and a K&N panel. Would this be an advisable thing to do? I want to keep at stockish boost levels but get rid of the surging and maybe pick up a little earlier spool.

Your problem, is that you don't have any engine mangement. Negative on the boost controller, you run the risk of a full boost/partial throttle situation. That will cause the motor to run lean and we all know what happens when motors run lean. Get engine management end of story.

Well on my old FBCS it was broken and it would run 17lbs. in 1st and 18lbs. in all other gears which caused me to hit a fuel cut and throw a CEL. I was thinking that having an 03' with the different OL/CL it would be okay to run around 16lbs at most without a tune. I've heard that I really need to watch out for PTFB but other then that I should be fine. This is just info I've been getting from nasioc.com Here's the thread Manual Boost Controller - Factory 2.0L Turbo Powertrain - NASIOC
