in the link above to the mitsu forum.. the quoted stuff in red claims in one area its more efficient and in another area that you dont go as far on a tank.. how does that work ?

looks pretty cool..i'll give it 12-18 months of use on other peoples STi's before I make the switch.. assuming I can get it from a local station easily.

I'm wondering that too.it states you have to use 39% more fuel.I remember reading somewhere that it costs 2.65 a gallon for E85 and 91 octane around here is 3.15.that's a difference of 50 cents.if your gas tank is lets say 14 gallons and you get 23 mpg it would cost you $44.10 to fill with 91 octance gasoline and $37.10 to fill with E85 ethanol. You would be getting 322 miles per tank with 91 octane gasoline. You would get the same with E85 but it requires 39% more fuel to go the same distance so you'd need 1.39 gallons to go 23 miles. You basically would be getting 15mpg roughly if my calculations are correct.15 times 14 gallons is 210 miles. That's 110 miles less than regular 91 octane. But if you take the 7$ you saved by using E85 and put it back into the tank you'd be getting roughly 249 miles to the tank.

I'm done with my math for today.I need to link this to my algebra teacher

If the ppg would be at 2.35 it would cost $32.90 to fill up meaning with the money you save and put back in you'd get 281 miles a tank.So for it to be better for our wallets it would have to cost 2.05 a gallon.Meaning it would cost $28.70 to fill your tank.and you would save around $15.40 and putting that back in you'd be at 112+210 which is 322.

I think I might have did something wrong but you guys should get my point.you'd have to put the money you would save back into the gas tank.

So, in short...there is no real savings?

Yea no longer a dependency on forgein oil, thats the main thing. I bet they could do it cheaper, but why undercut themselves since gas is so expensive now, they can charge 30 cents and still say its a savings

dont forget the power increase as well. Its basically a free performance gain when using e85 compared to gas. Just requires some support mods to make it work

the reason it requires more fuel is because ethanol has less energy in a given unit of mass then gasoline does. Its more efficient because its a cleaner and cooler burning fuel.

I was so busy today and did not have the time to set up the trailer for the drums today, so it will be Wed.

The price of fuel is on the RISE...big time. 93 octane will be 4 bucks by the end of summer. That 2.50 gal looks real good.

yeah it looks good but how much to convert one of our subys to E85 compatable?we would need new injectors, fuel pump, possible fuel rail and defidently a tune.could cost upwards of $1000.I'm all for helping the earth and the environment but it just doesn't seem wallet worthy in my opinion.you wouldn't go as far on a tank as you would with 93 octane, you'd have to refuel more often.

also if a lot of people switch over it will only be a matter of time before supply and demand sets in and the price of E85 goes up and the price of 93 octane goes down.then everyone will want to switch back over.

just my .02

The fact that it is a cooler burning fuel makes it not as efficient.

If you're going to do all that though, you'd rake in a bunch more tq/hp than w/ 93 octane gasoline
