I concur....225/50/16 is the limit
Bigger issue is whether the WRX 16" rims will clear the 4 pots. I know the 16" FXT rims do but just barely and I mean barely. YRMV.

Not sure if youre considering them as a cheap replacement for your damaged wheels, but the 02-05 wheels wont clear the brakes on an 06 without spacers.
As far as your question, I believe Alberto is right and a 225 is the widest you can go.
