Turbo Question.
So my friend has a practly brand new VF39 Turbo he wants to sell me for $400.00
I was thinkign about buying it for my 04 WRX, But I have a few questions.
1) Is 400 a good price?
2) Right now all I have on my car is SPT Catback, SPT Intake and some suspension stuff. What else would I need to use this turbo?
Thanks,
Mike

I think he said 5K Miles.
Should I even bother with a VF39? What kinda of power gain will I see with everythign listed above done?

well, i would ask him if he is gonna sell the injectors too. anyway, you will probably need to go with a bigger topmount, a new fuel pump(not very expensive) and either a boost controller or just the solenoid that Faded mentioned. then a kick ass tune. Your power gain should be very efficient. dont quote me, but ive heard some getting a good 300 or so with the set up.
vf39(hopefully with injectors): 400
Topmount: (used) 4-500
Fuel Pump(255lph): 83.99 shipped haha
Perrin boost solenoid: 80-100 (depending where you buy it)
Tune: (initial)850, (if tuned already) 150/hr
Total: depending on your route will be from 1000-2000. not bad.

a rough guestimmation is for every 1 CFM = 1.34 hp. The vf-39 flows around 120 more CFM than the stock wrx turbo (with a PR of 2.0 (14.7 psi)). This can add up to ~160 hp, however this is best case paper scenario leaving out quite a few variables that would have impact.
Soo, having fun you could say that 'at the most absolute best, in a perfect environment (at the stock 14.7 PSI)' you would be in the range of 227+10 (lowball the gains from SPT) + 160 = 397 at the engine. Imagine a 25% drivetrain loss and that's in the area of 298-300whp. Put on some additional mods (up/dwn pipes) or possibly up the boost a few psi (then you can get into the larger TMIC needs) and that'd be the neighborhood of where your car would sit (in real life, not on paper since the additional mods would make up for most of what I left out).
That isn't really too far off from some of the numbers that some rex's w/ VF-39s and supporting mods have put out.

i sometimes wish i had a wrx to hook up. yea, im lucky to have the sti, but i wouldnt mind having an sweet and fast wrx. damn, good luck on w/e you decide to do
