Ive been to a few autocrosses before, a few things i learned when i first sarted is that 1) the tracks are often verry misleading someimes as to weather you should turn or go strait ect. but having a pro ride with you can help alot or even ask they guy/gal that ran the session before you to ride this also benifits by having equal weight on both sides of the car. 2) get there early! dont be late, and have time to walk the coarse at least once. usualy there is a meeting follwed by a group coarse walk to help let everybody know how the coarse goes. 3) dont skip out on helping set up/pick up cones during and after the race. offer the guy whos been standing in the sun for a half hour wearing a bright orange vest some water and so on. 3) alot of times ppl will be more than happy to let you ride with them as long as you ask politely, the better you know the coarse (as in all racing) the more confidence you will have goin into and out of the corners.4) i dont know what you have done to your car as far as suspention and tires, but i did all of mine in a stock s13 and had quite a bit of understeer and body roll, so during the slalom and other trick sections i would actualy have to turn the wheel early to compensate that.
5) lastly, have fun while your doing it and dont think too hard, the last time i went out for autocross i ran my fastest time with heavy metal blaring and head banging a little lol
sorry for the long post, was bored. lol, but good luck to ya!

Ride with experienced people. It's fun and you'll learn a lot.
Have experienced folks ride with you and give you pointers. This is one of the best ways to drop time.
Be smooth! Concentrate on being as smooth as possible.
Up your tire pressure a bit and check it between runs.
Slow in, fast out. Don't come in so fast that you push wide.
Focus on bettering your own time each run, and forget about what everyone else is running.
Meet cool people, relax, and HAVE FUN.
