Default How much difference does a cold air intake make on an STI.....

Let me answer my own question....quite a bit

I took off the APS intake today getting it back to stock so Mastro can fix a problem and there was an immediate difference. Peak boost was down 1.5psi and the butt dyno showed a 17.36whp loss (plus or minus .05whp).

I thought i noticed a difference when i put it on, but when I took it off, it is very apparent. I really dislike the added noise of the intake, but I think its going back on for the power after the issue is sorted.

The problem is the car make a high pitch loud wistle or squeal under boost and no it is not the sound of the turbo. It has been doing it to some degree since it was almost new before any mods. I took it to mastro and they couldnt find anything, so they blamed it on the intake(and charged me for diagnosis time). So I have to retunr the car to stock for them to take another look at it and find the problem. Sounds like a boost leak, but i cant find one and neither could mastro. The sound does not seem to affect performance and gets quieter the longer you beat on it. It is loudest the first time you floor it

i've been expeirencing the same with my 06. but i've only been noticing the whistling noise after i did a boost gauge and cobb ap stage 1 install. mine would be noticable in the morning or if i turn on the car for the first time for the day. but as the car warmed up it would go completely away. and the whistle would only come on. and it wasnt everyday. so far i havent noticed it on my stage 2 setup. and i since then went from a mechanical to electrical boost gauge and my boost sender is in the engine compartment. i think i had a leak from the my boost gauge install. let me know what the problem was and how it was fixed.
