Pros:
AWD
Very reliable 4 CYL. Turbo.
Fast right out the box
Very comfortable ride
Nice Looks

Cons:
Turbo Lag can exsist
Heat Soak from the TMIC
Mods can be pricey
Cant just strap a MBC on the car and generate more power, almost always need a tune or EM.

Hope that helps.

if you're looking at a WRX (and not a STI) and you want to mod it then you should be careful of the tranny. I've heard some people mod their WRX and drive like sane people and haven't had too many problems. But I've heard from more people that have had to rebuild or replace their tranny after getting their WRX up near the 300hp mark (maybe they're dumping the clutch at every light).

i second that. I just bought my 02 WRX in May. I have a Honda (for sale) that is tastefully modded, Prelude motor swap, yadda yadda. but of course there are always the bad apples that ruin the car community....

I remeber back in 1999-2000 the subaru community was smaller and more tight knit. We used to have great dinner meets, everybody knew each other and actully held conversations. And everyone there was a Die Hard subaru person that knew there shit.

Now there are far to many "look what my parents bought me" & "just sold the old honda and bought this" kids that really ruin what it used to be..

not entirely true, i dropped a full second in the 1/4 miles with just an EBC and only thing that went bad was the clutch.
as for the trannies, if you know how to drive a manual (really know, not just able to) you shouldnt have a problem. see this thread to help you take care of the gears.

yeah well thats what happens its a reliable car and it is fast outta the box you should be proud to drive one and be one the firsts and dont worry about those kids... i mean its hard for me to talk bc i had a civic before this and it got stolen and i got shafted by my insurance company i always wanted a wrx and have been researching them and learning before i open my mouth and say sumthing stupid..so you guys should just be more helpful to the newbs so our car doesnt get a bad wrap... those are my feelings
