Just an update for everyone (LD is one of my best friends). He broke his pelvis, left radius, and lower left leg (not sure tibia or fibia), and had his spleen removed. Also broke some ribs, and had a few chipped teeth. He's in rehab now, and should hopefully be out in a few days.
Seeing the car in person is really sobering. It's crazy to remember riding all around in that car only a few weeks ago, or spending hours working on it, and now it's a tangled pile of metal. That car meant a lot to him, which makes the crash all the worse.
Oh, and yeah, a few hours before it happened, he got his accessport, and reflashed to Stage 2. Guess he was testing it out at the wrong place and wrong time...

yeah I drove that car at the Brooksville event earlier this month and that car was on its way to being very nice. I liked the way it felt and handled. I hope he is doing well and that he decides to get another subie and get back out there racing with us.

The details still aren't totally clear, but from what's been gathered so far, he was travelling east on Platt (3-lane 1-way road in South Tampa), at likely a decently high rate of speed, when a car started to pull out from a side road in front of him. He swerved left (from the right lane), to avoid it, then quickly cranked it back to the right, to avoid a car in another lane. The car appears to have oversteered, and the back end got loose. He slid almost 100 feet sideways, into a telephone pole. It impacted right at the B-Pillar. Miraculously, the door being pushed inwards shoved him up to the dash/steering wheel, and he wasn't crushed. If he had been a few inches further back, or had hit a few inches further up on the pole, he might not have fared as well as he did. As it was, the pole was split in two.
He broke his pelvis, and ankle (possibly more?), and had to have his spleen removed. The firefighters had to cut the roof off of his car with the jaws of life to get him out. He was in the ICU at Tampa General Hospital for the last 4 days, and had surgery yesterday to remove shards of bone from his pelvis, and insert a screw, I believe. He's now in a private room, and seems to be improving, though he won't be walking normally for around 12 weeks
