Hope your pockets are deep cause its not cheap. If you get an amazing deal on a tranny and do the install yourself, youre still looking at like 3-4K at least. But figure at least 5K realistically. Performance gains? Not really. The gears are closer together which would be better for auto-x or trackdays, but on the other hand its not really a drag racing tranny, and might actually make you slower down the 1/4 if you have to grab 5th. Youre paying for the reliability here and not much else.

Id say investigate your options. If youre just trying not to blow up 1st/2nd gear, look into a PPG 1-2 gearset and keep the stock 3-5.

for a 1/4 mile setup ppg is the way to go. http://www.andrewtechautomotive.com/
they are the best, by far.

i debated for awhile on which way to go. 6 speed or upgraded 5 speed? i decided that i'm eventually going upgraded 5 speed. less parts to deal with, for the price better trans, and faster 1/4 if thats what you're looking for. i've driven both and i'd be alot happier with a ppg. too bad i'm poor due to the wife getting knocked up
