hey guys, tonight i was out driving and racing and w/e. well, at one point when i got into the car and started goin, i began to hear this tapping sound when i got on it. its has never done this. the people who rode with me thought it might be the CAI tapping against the side of the car when i get on it. I was with java and he said he wasnt too sure (he didnt ride with me in the car). im not sure if i can hear it sitting still b/c of the exhaust. Do you guys have any idea what it might be? as i hit higher boost, it will go tap, tap, tap...... So, im not too sure, the car seems to be running fine.

Yep, if it is only making the noise at higher boost levels, it could very well be detonation. You should stay out of boost till you know for certain that it is not detonation, otherwise you may learn a very expensive lesson. Do you have anything done to your car mod-wise?

 

i will have to check on my way to school to hear the tapping when i start up (if it does it). About detonation, java said it should sound like marbles in a coffee can. No, it does not sound like that. the sound is like tapping a piece of plastic with your finger (not that hard though). Or, u know when the belts move and they make that click sound? kind of like that noise.

 

hey i talked to scott, he said that i was the new soleniod tapping. i have it mounted to the car on the strut side and he said thats the first time it fired. He is pretty sure thats what it is. so he said i would have to mount it off of the car onto the metal bracket with a rubber mounted piece. he was pretty sure of it, so at least that makes me feel kind of better.

 

Let me know if you get the same sound at startup, I have the same problem but my car is being looked at for it.
