State Troopers are A-holes!!!!!
I just got pulled over today for what I thought were two stupid reasons. The first ticket I recieved was for having an aftermarket exhaust. He told me it didnt matter how loud it was nor did he check under my car to look at the exhaust and proceeded to say it was illegal to replace the exhaust. Second he gave me a ticket for changing lanes without using my turn signal. I am planning on fighting both of these, but was wondering if anyone had any helpfull advice on how to get out of these tickets. I remember seeing someone else post on here about getting out of the exhaust one but can't find that thread. So if anyone knows what statue he used to fight the exhaust please let me know. Or worst case would anybody be willing to let me borrow a stock turbo back exhaust to go and have an inspection done, then i would give it back to you. Any help is appreciated.
Here is my lengthy thread. You should find links to all applicable exhaust statutes in it. I did NOT get out of my ticket, but feel that I could shall the situation arise again. The thread is 3 pages or so, but if you take the time to read it all, I think that you'll be able to pull some good info out of it. If anything, go to traffic court, plead no contest and the judge will most likely reduce your fine (a whopping $10 was taken off my ticket) and he'll probably withhold any points (there will be no points for the exhaust ticket, however I'd imagine there would be for the improper lane change since it is a moving violation.) He may mandate that you go to driver's school. Good luck man and let us know what happens.

well all he said was that i could not have an aftermarket exhaust, which after looking up the law it says nothing about aftermarket it only says that you can not modify it. It doesnt say you can't replace it. ........................................but does anyone know what the law or statue is for proper lane change using turn signals. i thought you used turn signals to make a turn or change direction which is why they are called directionals.
you're welcome to my 06 sti TBE, on loaner....
LMK if you wanna work something out with me.
best of luck.

well i think i can win the case on the exhaust because nowhere in the statue does it say that you can not replace the exhaust, it only states that you cannot modify it to be louder. and since the cop said i was getting a ticket for the exhaust itself and not the noise i think i should be able to win.........also it would be a big hassle to take off my exhaust and install the other one just to go and have it inspected.....but maybe you guys might know if it is better for me to take it to court or to go through the hassle of putting on a loaner.
so has anyone else recieved a ticket on changing lanes without using a turn signal....i looked that one up too and was only able to find statue 316.085 which says to use turn signals to make a turn.......not change lanes.

Hmmm, I couldn't find any statute pertaining to the use of turn signals either. I would think that it has to be in statutes somewhere, but I sure can't find it.
As for the exhaust, you are correct. There is no statute that states that you may not replace your exhuast system. Please list the actual statute numbers that he cited you for so that I can further comment on what I think might happen.....
