02-03 Stock boost?
I'm curious of the stock boost on an 02 or 03 stock wrx? The reason I'm asking is because my cousin has one and he says it's fast than my SRT blah blah blah but then he tells me the only reason he can't keep up with me is because he is only pushing 7 psi because he doesn't have a boost controller and somehow the person before him has it set at the factory 7 is this true? I would thank the factory has to be higher than 7 for that motor to make 227 horsepower. I may be wrong I don't know anything about the WRX so that's why I'm asking thanks. And I know the flamings are coming because I said something about my SRT-4 ut I can handle it.

I figured that I told him that's what he gets for buying a used car in which the aftermarket headlights don't even work along with the switch and there is blue tape over the hole in the fender where the stock air box went. It's a decent car but whoever had it before him didn't take care of it. The front lip is busted all to hell from this guy so I think something is wrong with the turbo or boost pressure somehow
Stock boost is around what FadedSTi said.
Sorry to hear that your cousin bought the car like that. The good thing is that WRXs are getting relatively common, so OEM or aftermarket replacement parts should be on the cheap-er side.

Yeah even at WOT he is only building about 7 lbs at least that's what the gauge says and it surely doesn't feel like 14 lbs of boost like I said my SRT-4 spikes in WOT at about 15-16 lbs and holds at WOT around 10-12 so I think there is either a leak or something wrong somewhere and I only see him about once every two weeks so I don't know if I'm going to be able to help him or not but oh well I guess when I do see him I'll have to look at it for him. Let me ask you guys what's the best way to check for a boost leak and is there a common spot on the WRX? Also what else could be causing the lack of boost?
Stock boost on a WRX is about 13.5-14psi. Wastegate pressure, which is a default condition where the wastegate is fully open all the time, is around 7psi at WOT (this is how the AccessPORT's economy map "controls" boost).
There is something wrong with the boost solenoid and/or the lines that control it. There's supposed to be a restrictor in the line, if that's gone, you'll run wg pressure. Sounds to me like somebody had an MBC on the car and didn't quite return it to "stock" right.

kinda hard to say if someone can fix it when we dont know the problem. have him check all his clamps and hoses to make sure of no leaks
Ok this thread is about to take an unbelievable turn and I'm calling BS on my cousin because he's sayin another friend of his put an e-bay MBC on it and they had the screw lossened all the way out on it and they test drove it and his boost gauge was reading 30+ psi. I somehow don't believe his basically stock 02 would allow 30+ psi on the stock fuel system.... I'm at a loss because he swears it was reading that high and that launching and nailing the throttle was slamming the passengers into the seats like I said I call total BS on this but I'm curious to know what the stock fuel system will allow as far as boost goes.
