Default coolant consumed?

I have an 02 WRX and was curious how much coolant is usually burnt on average?

When i drove "economically" i burn very little to none, although when i get on it, it uses a noticable amount (noticablly to me is about 1/4 of an inch) which is ABOVE THE FULL MARK. the diamater of the filler neck is less that half above the full mark.i checked around and people say i have a blown head gasket... i said impossible. i drive from westshore to valrico and backnearly once every other day. IU also think the cold can have an affect on the reading, by either me having my heater on, or the cool weather not needing so much coolant. I have a stock airbox (scooby modded) hks up pipe, downpipe exaust hyper grounding kit, and SSQV. no ECU mods what so ever...

any help wuld be GRRREAT!

If the car burned some oil when you really flog it, I could understand. But coolant? That doesn't sound right. Does your coolant smell like raw fuel? Is there any oil in it? It is entirely possible that the turbo has a leaky coolant seal. But still an interesting problem. Doesn't sound too excessive though.

I have an hks up pipe and down pipe, so my car always smells like fuel. although my coolant doesnt semll like fuel, nor is it black. my thought is that because i run it hard (with a venting bov+richer mixture= hotter spark which also creates more heat and more heat is cooled by the coolant)it needs to be cooled more.

A venting BOV only runs rich when you let off the gas to shift.

yes, i know. although i do shift alot during a 45 mile round-trip. I am willing to bet it has to do with the heater being on. it only does it when i use it.

Did you say that the coolant level is ABOVE the full mark?

If it was burning coolant, it would be low, no?

above the level? that means its just boiling over some, which is normal and why you have a catch can for coolant.

now if your boiling coolant IN the overflow tank, that could def mean blown headgasket.

you can do a radiator carbon monoxide test. you can get them at car quest for like $10-15. basically you put it on the radiator where the cap would go when the car is completely cool. Then you put this die in that container, start the car and if you have carbon monoxide entering your radiator, the liquid in the container will change colors.
