Question Cruise Control blinking non stop?

My freind Sierra3 just had his APS TBE installed on his '06 STi Monday and had yet to see the CEL light light up until last night when he left the Brandon meet. The CEL is on and his cruise control light flashes constantly and will not stop. The curise control is obviously not operational becuase of this. Has anyone seen this before? Would the resistor that Mastro sells fix the CEL AND the cruise issue? Any help is appreciated and he will check this thread today after work to seek answers. TIA!

Hey Robb,

My 06' did the same thing. Did it happen while at a constant speed for more than about 15 minutes? It is normal, tell him that now all he needs to do is get it reflashed to get rid of it.

I'm going by memory here, since I don't have an STi, but when the CEL comes on in the STi, the cruise light blinks also. It's kinda like a double warning. Resetting the ECU will remove the CEL from memory, but it probably will come back. Rather than doing the resistor fix for the CEL, which involves cutting and splicing wires (and I've heard sometimes it can "fail"), you can also do the mechanical fix, which pretty much works the same.

Java is having the same problem, I think its a system too rich/too lean code. On a wrx, when its system to lean/rich, it blinks the cel. On an sti, it turns on the cel and blinks the cruise control.

I wonder if that's because the gauge cluster is red, the CEL is orange, and the cruise light is green. Perhaps they flash it to get your eyes to look down there? The cruise light is pretty close to the CEL light, yes?

Thanks for the feedback guys. It started after I was on the Crosstown after about 30 min. I plan to have Doug tune the car in December when he comes down. Is it ok to drive it like that until then?

I would have to give you a big resounding maybe...

What I would do If I were you is get with somebody who has a delta dash, and check the codes, system too lean is dangerous if you let it go too long... Esp if your going on a long trip.

The cruise control light will flash any time the ECU throws a code... depending on what the code is will decide whether you should drive the car or not. Your best option is to have some who has a code reader, scan your code to find out.
