I am going to try the ebcs and then later switch to the avcr. I don't know how to tune that avcr.

i wouldnt try to use the settings from someone else cuz there are too many variables. Especially since he is going to be externally gated.

No offense man, and i dont mean to single you out, but this is wrong... end of story. A manual can control boost at higher levels, be less resistant to failure, and is a set it and not worry about a solenoid or stepping motor, there is no gain nothing else important etc... if you need proof, i invite you to ask matt scranton what he has in his 1500 hp supra, it happens to be a manual boost controller. they are less prone to failure and far less complicated..

I however had an avc-r in my subaru. The avc-r is good, but at what point do you need all the silly adjustment? gear and RPM based boost is good for traction limited cars, like hondas that can only fit narrow wheels and tires for the street, or big power rwd cars, that are traction limited due to silly street tires... Otherwise, buy a simple electronic if you really must have one or if you cannot use an ecu controlled solenoid as you can with aem ems etc... I suppose i would go with the new greddy, it has knobs, supposedly a rock solid design, you dont pay for a blue/black display and it works as well, maybe even better.

Think of it this way, how many of you guys actually need a boost adjustment, what happened to set it and forget it? I havent met too many people that go from VP import, to c16 to pump gas in a week, so realistically what is the point of having a LOW and HIGH boost for pump gas? Why not just leave it on high, and drive around? I know i sure as hell dont have to go wot every time i drive my car, so i can imagine it will make much of a difference, and even still, if you are doing things like this, why wouldnt it be tuned properly? Sure its cool, and if you really want to, spend the money, by all means, but a manual is bang for the buck, just dont buy a POS, an ecu controlled bit would be great, but not a possibility for all, and there are a slew of other electronic Boost controllers out there that are simply cheaper... I know for sure, that most people i run across cant ever even use the avc-r to the fullest of its capabilities anyhow!! Dont get me wrong, the avc-r is excellent in most ways... i would be tempted to buy another, but i want more solid 30+ psi control from it, and i WILL be running c16 or some variant regularly.. im almost positive that i will be using a dual solenoid blitz, or a manual, due to this, as single solenoid and stepping motor EBC's cannot avoid spiking and such quickly enough for me to not go past my target boost levels, and at 36 psi, i dont want to have any little deviation..

again, no offense to anyone that has this/these parts, the avc-r specifically is a damn good piece, i just dont think the extra money is neccesary unless of course it suits you, or you just plain like it

i hope all this shit makes sense, im tired and just wanted to put in my $0.25

Mark

personally i feel that useing a manual boost controller is not an effective tuning tool.

any major tuner in the USA will suggest a EBC over a manual. why? flexibility, ease of tune, works with EM. just to name a few.

im not saying this is the only way to do it. just the way i would do it. anything can be done more than one way...

agree to disagree.

if the perrin ebcs suits my needs then I don't really see the avc-r as a need.
