02-03 vs 04-05 WRX motor differences?
is there any difference between a 03 to the new body style 04 motor? hence, if i bought an 04 motor to put in my 03, does anything change?

Same basic longblock, but you should transfer the wiring / intake manifold / sensors, etc from your original block as some small things (like sensor location and style) have changed.

Is this a I want better performance question so should I get the swap??
If so, not it is the same, less miles will mean a stronger motor, but that's about it.
If it is a I got an 03 shell or a car with a blown engine and can only find an 04 used engine will it work kind of question, then it will work, but like they said they might be different sensor locations. If they are the same sensors just in different places you can always extend the wires of your factory harness, not too hard to do, as long as they use the same plugs you have no problems really.
Now if you are talking about the 04 sti engine, that's different.

Mark, the 04 engine is the same and only minot differences like what was mentioned above. You could definetely figure it out Mark. But If I were you I would get a STi motor if you are buying new......or get a 06 WRX motor....2.5l!
