Default Proper wheel offset for Sti?

Hey guys could you clue me in a little bit on this? I've found confusing (i.e. conflicting) information on the proper wheel offset.

I'm looking to possibly get some 18 x 8's. I know the stock rims on my '05 are 53mm offset. The ones I'm looking to get say they are made for the '05 but the offset is 49. Is this going to be a problem?

How much does a slight difference in tire height make? Is there an "acceptable" amount you can raise or lower tire height? Found this cool wheel size calculator o/l: http://gs.tolan-hoechst.com/tirecalc.htm

Don't worry about offending me by making things too simple. This is the first time I've really dealt with changing rime size and offset on a car so I don't know much.

Thanks.
B

A 4mm offset different shouldn't make that much of a difference. The wheel will stick out 4mm further, along with whatever yires you get. My '04 with Perrin springs (looooww) has no problem clearing stockers, and if yours is any higher than mine I'm sure 4mm won't matter. If anything it'll look better because the wheels will be more flush.

I really want the Prodrive P1s but I don't think they'll clear the brakes

If you really cant figure it out just call or email the place you are going to order the rims from. If they cant tell you then order them from somwhere else. I run 18.8 Gram Light 57 Pros with a 49mm offset. These will clear the big ass Project Mu BBK so a similar set up should work for you, oh and i tried the rims on my firends STI and they fit fine.
