Default WRX vf22 install-Dyno tuning......

RESIZED PICTURES, OR THUMBNAILS, CLICK ON THEM FOR LARGER PICTURE

It took me about 14 hours total, it was a total bitch, but it was worth it.
Here's a few pictures of the install.

the new on the left, the old on the right, not a big size difference, but the new one is a ball bearing turbo and the hot side is bigger.

you see the greenish bracket under the radiator canister, vaccum, coolant and fuel hoses, and all the other crap, are the injectors. The green bracket is a bitch to take out and the injectors are a bitch to change.

turbo and a shot of the downpipe.

Now for the dyno. The car of course would not run with the bigger injectors, about 300cc more than stock, so I needed to tow the car. I got AAA so no problems right? They sent a tow truck, the guy said my car was too lowered to be towed, I got springs with a 1.5" drop and still have about 4" of clearance. He made me take out the front lip, and after all that he would not tow the car. I call AAA they say they do not cover modified cars, I'm like bullshit, let me speak to a manager, the bitch told me the same, I was like, I cannot believe that of the millions of your customers no one drives a viper, bmw, porsche or any import or modified car, and that if they didn't send someone to tow my car I woul cancel my membership. She shut up and sent me another guy, who did the job.

On the dyno I went to Central Florida Turbo. They have a mustang dyno, which gives you a more real world power figure, better I guess than the dynojets. For some reason the car was on lymp mode to begin the tuning. The car would not rev pass 4k. They messed up with the ECU connections and found a lose connector, that only took like 2 hours :-[.

Here are the facilities

the car with no front is a toyota tercel, with an mr2 dohc engine, and a big ass turbo

the car rolling in.

Anyhow they got it fixed and started tuning, the first run was 162whp. Lame. Then they started tuning and got better and better and better. Numbers topped at 272whp and 263lb/tq. That's around 300whp on a dynojet. The battery was going out, and the car was still acting up, at high rpms the voltage would drop to 11v and the Utec actually could shut down with low voltage and stop the injectors and gas to the engine. Also the wastegate was opening at high rpms, it would start at 17psi and go down to 13-14psi.

I was recommended to get a new battery, which I did, and get a spring to hold the wastegate close a little longer, they said I could boost up to 19 psi safely, so I will go back soon for more dyno time.

300whp on the mustang dyno are very real, and I hope to get there the next time.
So when are we going to the track. :hurray: :hurray: :hurray:

Your car looks great and pretty impressive numbers. I also plan on doing a vf22 later also. What type of intercooler are you runnning? Great writeup

Ok I made the pictures thumbnails, so you can now click on them if you want, and check them out. Another forum I go to uses different software that allow you to change the size of pictures right on your posts, that's why I was asking.

It's the Greddy FMIC kit. The hot side charge pipe is a bit small, it was heating up quickly, but it works nice.

Not sure, he said he just moved the plugs on the Utec or Factory ECU, and that one was a little loose, so he plugged it in and it worked

And you are correct the 22 doesn't look that big, and it is the bigger of the IHI family. It feels a lot bigger, all I can think is that it is a pefect and efficient design
