I have one too, well, it may be an extended loan, but for all intents and purposes, I have one [for now]. Anywhoo, it is cool. Good information on it. However, I'm not so sure I'd go quite as far with what you said earlier.

I don't necessarily disagree, however, I must convey what may become a bulky regret down the road for several reasons.

1.) Gauges are for good real-time observations of 'wtf is going on.'
-EcuTek has to still load up and what not.
2.) Now you have a laptop in your car which is susceptible to a lot of stuff.
-Heat, theft, etc.
3.) The ergonomics may not be in your favor.
-The diagnostic port under the steering column gets in my way a tad, because it is about 5" long when connected to the serial connector, and again, thats the connector on the serial cable itself.
-Additionally, you'll probably need a JottoDesk, like what the Police cruisers have. That may or may not piss off your front passengers.

http://www.jottodesk.us/import_select_jotto_desk.htm
-This may also present a real-world driving hazard as your passenger-side airbags are now impaired.

Now, again, please don't think I'm flaming your idea/thread, however just pointing out some 'cons.'

For the pros, you can have it pretty made if you decide to run your DeltaDash all the time.

1.) It gives you the excuse to start up a pretty cool CarPuter project like this guy on NASIOC.

http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show...light=carputer
-Granted, its in an 04 OBS, but I figure it can't be too different.
2.) You can play DVDs for long trips if you don't already have that capability.
3.) Hands down EcuTek DeltaDash is friggen awesome!

...all IMHO of course

Any PC past a Pentium (the first one) can handle serial port data at a rate fast enough for DeltaDash's fastest setting.

You're not going to be able to accurately log more than 2-3 parameters in near realtime no matter the PC.

System Requirements
Before purchasing DeltaDash or our ECU programming software, please carefully check that your PC is suitable for running our software.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
System Requirements
Operating System Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows ME, Windows NT 4, Windows 2000, Windows XP Home & Pro
Processor Pentium or higher (so I suppose its implied that 'any' Pentium will work)
Memory 32MB or higher
Hard Disk Space 20MB
Display 800x600 minimum screen resolution.
1024x768 recommended.
640x480 is not supported.
1 Free Parallel, PCMCIA or USB Port A license key must be plugged into one of these three ports.
You must specify at the time of ordering which type of port you intend to use, so that the correct type of key is supplied.
If you intend to use a parallel port, it must be an industry standard internal parallel port.
USB and other non standard parallel ports are not suitable.
1 Free RS-232
Serial Port Standard 9 pin RS232 serial port.
If your PC has a 25 pin socket, then you will need a 25 to 9 way adapter.
If your PC has no serial port, you will need to purchase a USB to serial, or PCMCIA to serial interface.
Internet Access Required for future software update downloads

*EDIT* I have a circa 1990's Toshiba Satellite Model 225CDS. It is a Pentium 133 mHz with I think 32MB ram. It squeaks by, but I guess does the job.
