Tranny question
Hey, I was wondering if anyone out there has had any experience with aftermarket trannys....
I drive a 03 WRX and am getting ready to toss my 2nd tranny.
I've been looking at the TurboXS dogbox and the Sti Spec RA gearset.
Any insight would be great, thx.

Billy has had a good run with his KAAZ gear setup... it all depends how much torque your making and how you drive/what you do with it ..
also consider a STi 6 speed .. i've not heard of a lot of trouble with them (the non DCCD ones anyhow) .. and guys are making good numbers.

Quite a few people complain about drag racing with the STI 6MT due to the gearing. Also don't forget the effort/money required for rear diff massaging. It can be done with the stock WRX R160 rear diff and axles, but... Other than that, people seem to like them. Pricy.
Another option is a set from Gimmie Gears
Another option is a set from PAR, available from XX Tuning in CT.
And of course KAAZ and the V6 STI RA and V6 STI non-RA (same quality of gears, different ratios). I've heard nothing but good things about the RA ratios, with the exception of the inflated-RPM cruising in 5th for highway use. I'm not sure if they're the right bet if you're intending over ~350WHP though.
Then again, it all depends on your intended shifting.
If your intended goal is to bang through all 5 all the time and flat-foot shift, seems to me the reasonable answer is the TXS set.

I can't complain about my Kaaz set, but if drag racing and highway cruising is your bag, look elsewhere...this isn't the set for you.
If you're still interested and see me out somewhere, just let me know...we take a spin around the block so you can see what they're like.
If you do a search on "Kaaz gearset" you'll find my post about the ratios, first impressions and pics. Oh, and if you are in the market for an Exedy Sport clutch and flywheel...let me know, I have a prebroken in pair sitting in my garage with about ~2500-3000 miles on them.

Well, right now my car is a daily driver. I was leaning towards the Dogbox. Does the TurboXS one really wear out that quick?
I really like the gearing of it. Drag racing is pretty much all I can do, I haven't really found any other types of tracks in my area.

I don't know too much about the turbo x-s dog box, but it looks more streetable than others. It doesn't say how much power it can handle though.
