WRX VS STI Help
I really want to get a WRX or and STI. My first question is is the STI worth the money? It is a badass car dont get me wrong but used they run $28,000 a wrx used is $17,000. I love the way a STI looks.
Here is what i am going for.
Use:I am going to take it to the track. I need it for everyday driving. I also want to start going to sebring as well to do some autocross.
Power: I want 300hp if i get the wrx. i want 350hp if i get the sti.
1/4 mile: i want to go at least high 12's in the wrx. low 12's high 11's in the STI.
I dont want this to be in all out track car. I just want to wake up the car some.
What would you get and what mods would you do in order to get it to my goals.
Performance and Supension.

1st of all remeber the WRX/STi is not a 1/4 mile car or a high whp car.
If you want that then go for a cobra or something.
Personally i think the STi is a great bang for the buck. The interior is beautiful, runs low 13s out of the dealership, its AWD and its a Subaru. Oh yeah plus the STi has the cool intercooler sprayer.
If your looking for a 350WHP STi, I think that would get you in the mid to low 12s. This would be a very practical car that could be daily drivin.
Mods
-Turboback exhaust, uppipe,ECUtuning, bigger injectors, fuel pump,FMIC,bigger turbo. I dont know what kinda 1/4 mile time the stock turbo can take you but with these mods it will be fast.
I dont know much about suspension
Im sure you would love to Autocross in this car. It would be a perfect balance of power and handling. But if you would really like to see where the AWD power would shine it would be in some offroading. I took mine out to a retension pound last week and boy was that a blast.
Here is what the WRX has to offer
-Good power, good interior, good tranny, good block
Here is what the STI has to offer
-Great power, great interior, great tranny, great block,DCCD,IC sprayer (even tho it doesnt do too much)
The STi is just a better car in every single aspect.

The DCCD sucks.. its a neat gimmick, but they break a lot supposedly and it isnt worth the money! If you buy an STi and this thing self destructs, pitch it in the trash and just get a mechanical LSD... The varying power front to rear is neat, but you dont really need that shit anyhow, as an adjustable mech. LSD will do MUCH better. Other than that the sti is def. worth the money.... Bang for buck, i would take my wrx over my supra ANYDAY, its a blast to drive, but in the long run, as skeet said, it doesnt make massive numbers WHP wise, and surely is more at home elsewhere from the dragstrip! Now, if youre looking for downright power etc... the Sti is the way to go, otherwise, a wrx will suit you fine, as I have modified my wrx and it MORE than gets the job done, ive done brakes, susp, and tons of motor stuff, and it makes plenty of power and is more than reliable! As Zate said however, if you will be rough with the car, then the STi's 6 speed is def. dominant! But as a daily driver, a WRX could do fine, as well as support all your needs at the track! oh yeah, if youre looking for a heavily modified WRX, pm me, mine is for sale
jk.. Anyhow, the only thing you should worry about is abused cars used, if thats the route you go, hell, if you get ballsy, which is my next plan, is to take a GC8 and put the new STi drivetrain into it, 2.5 liter and all, and build the living shit out of it, with a 6 speed to boot! I would pick the GC8 route, like a 99 impreza
and im liking silver cars as of late
Anyhow, whatever you decide to do, keep in mind that the WRX takes more to make more power, and is nowhere near as strong as the STi, but either way, you have nothing to worry about, any route you go can be a fast reliable daily driver that is a whole shitload of fun!

. That DCCD isnt really worth a shit! In fact, 3 STi owners i know say they dont ever even bother to change it.. lol..AND, they drive the PISS outta their cars!!! So when it breaks, and if you own one, you can pay 2,000 + for that little toy, I would just pull it and play with what works best in racing anyhow.. Besides, i NEVER said rally car, i just was talking about street cars. I dont know ANYONE running anything close to a WRC setup nor will I, the TRANS is worth more than a whole WRX

I haven't heard of a single DCCD failure since the release of the USDM STi. <shrug>
I do have to agree that if the DCCD was a factory option on the USDM STi I would of not doubt passed on it assuming -$1,500-$2,000 off the current sticker price.

fyi, driving the piss outta a car and knowing how to drive a car fast are 2 separate things

Ive heard a lot of people say that the center diff being variable isnt worth the trouble and cost to replace it.. The rally teams you may be talking about use it due to horsepower restriction.. But in a street car world, that CRAP is USELESS. Im willing to bet a wrx with the same coilovers put on an STi, and 3 MECH LSD's, would kick the crap outta an STi hangin around playing with settings around a track, given no power variable

The ireal issue here is most people missunderstand what the DCCD does. If you use the non DCCD 6 speeds with the suretack..its a 50/50 split.. and yes..its a bit stronger.. i'd run that in a drag car for sure.. but in something for a road course.. DCCD with sure track all the way.. even better get the newer stuff from the 05 cars with the yaw sensors.
as for the 3 owners.. if its set on auto.. no need to change it.. its adjustable to take advantage of conditions you'll not find very often in Florida unless your into takin your car off road.
