I replied to this in the post called "newbie". Do a google search or go to scoobymods.com and look for instructions on removing the intake snorkel/silencer. This is probably what he did, and it's a good thing. A high flow air filter will help and is worth the 42 bucks, since it can be washed and reused for 100k miles compared to 15k on a shitty one, but don't expect to really notice anything special.

Default cold air on stock intake

i was also thinking of making a "cold air" like intake by running plastic/rubber hoses and making a air duct from somewhere inside the wheel well or getting cold air from the front, then running it to the removed silencer hole. Does anyone think this may work?

well i have had it off for as long as i have had my car, its always been pritty loud, does the scilencer make it a lot less loud? could i just run a hose from the hole in the airbox from inside the finer wall to make it a little quieter?

I was planning on doing something similar to what i think you are talking about. I believe one of the posts on removing the silencer had some owners doing this; buying a large pvc pipe and running it from the airbox into the fender hole, now that the box doesn't reach. I can't see a negative to doing this, the airbox if probably sucking alittle bit of hotter air since there is that gap. I left my ram-air thing in and have it just pushing air towards the fender and the gap. Honestly i don't think it would be much of a noticeable difference anyway, like billy said. Most people plug the hole on the side where the ram-air thing used to connect to the snorkel, there's a subie oem part for the rs that fits perfect for like 5 bucks.

There's also a part you can buy, i believe its on boxer4.com that simply connects the ram air thing to the box, its just an elbow that's the right size. I think it's like 15 bones. If you like the "ram air" concept.

yeah, it was boxer4racing.com @ $45 but it doesn't look half as nice as the one at your link bone.
