Default WRX powerband???

Ive stated before that i recently purchased 04. Is it normal for power to start falling off around 4k rpm? I realize stock restrictions are still in place ,but should it pull further on the tach. It seems a bit soggy on low rpm as well, however my other car is a turbo civic (dont hate me) which seems to be much more responsive as well as a broader powerband. I know it is a much lighter car than the WRX but it also should be lacking 70 or so HP. Just curious if this is typical for stock vehicle.

you should be in boost at 4k, not falling out of power, is it still stock?

Yes 100% stock,it seems" torquey" but it doesnt seem to start pulling hard as one would think at 4k or above.

Is your timing messed up?

Back in the EJ22T days, Subaru liked to hook the motor to the Auto trans because it masked the jagged power curve.

I haven't had much messing around time with te EJ20 but you certianly shouldn't be losing power after 4k unless you running out of time or super lean or something. Does the power pick back up after 4k?

To ammend the previous post - Turbo or not, your Civic is going to make any other car ('cept maybe a rotary) seem unresponsive. There's no substitute for virtually no weight for internals and a light flywheel when it comes to response. With the stock restrictors in place you shouldn't be surprised if the motor seems slow revving.

Compare against someone else's car (friend's, dealer's, etc) to see if it's just your expectations or if its a real problem...

No ,power seems to slowly fade to redline. This could just be me making something from nothing, just seems it should pull harder. Anyone care to take a test drive in it to see if Im nuts or something!!!

Mranlet- missed your other post. Its intersting what you said about Rotary engines as that was my first true love!! Ahhh the 10,000 rpm buzzz of my first Rx-7. Nothing will compare to that for a responsive engine.

I was wondering, how recent did you get this? Did you break it in properly?

We got it about 3 months ago, Break-in is a topic that could be argued forever, however the first 1000 miles were driven lightly but not to the point of "babying" the car.

I've always felt it start to fade out after like 5700rpm, but that's just because the baby hamster in the stock turbo just runs out of breath up there. Give the poor little bastard a break,a water and oil diet can get boring after a while.
