bang for the buck
bang for the buck
assuming i don't win a grand at a casino over spring break or some b.s. like that, i've been thinking about just getting an SAFC I or II and an MBC for a lil more power. Just curious as to any other cheap, reliable, alternatives or personal experiences with this setup on your subie.
[I don't plan on having a grand to spend on my car any time soon]

You can find a mbc cheap along with an up-pipe and maybe even a good used turbo back for under a grand. But, I cannot gaurantee your car won't get some detonation. If you want it done right, start with some engine management than modify as you see fit. You can always tune your car with each additional mod with ECUtek, UTEC, etc.

I really don't recommend an MBC on the WRX. I tried one on my '02 and the car drove like poop and was removed promply.
I would suggest a Cobb Stage I ECU reflash for an otherwise stock car or Stage II plus a uppipe and/or cheap HKS downpipe for the best bang for your buck.

MBCs and SAFCs suck
just get a 50 shot
if not, buy a coastal dyno downpipe
or an up pipe

guys.. read his sig.. he HAS a up-pipe and down pipe... plus intercooler hoses.. next step is a little tuning.. and some more boost.. if he doenst want to spend much money.. thats SAFC and MBC.. not the ideal route.. you will eventually develop the hesitation most people with a MBC get.. and you cant adjust timing (although at this early stage the ECU does an ok job)
if it was me i'd spring for some kind og ECU tuning that can alter boost and use the factory solenoid.. ecutek.. cobb stuff.. utec.. its all much of a muchness really..
otherwise go SAFC and EBC.. but for that amount you can get the options mentioned above.
50 shot is an option.. but not one i'd go with just yet.. not until i had some kind of electronic tuning option.
dont forget such things as EGT guages, boost guages (especially if your raising the boost) and monitoring/logging devices.. they can be invaluable for determining exactly what your car is doing and planning what your next mod should be to get rid of a bottle neck.
just rmember the reliability of your car is directly inversely proportional to the amount of money you spend on being "safe" with your mods/tunes .. and guages/loggers add alot of safety.

thanks so far with the help guys, i kindof got the responses i was expecting. I've never considered the simple piggyback garbage like an SAFC before, its just that i don't think i'm gonna have any more dough for the car for quite some time. This is the last semester of my fourth year of college and i don't plan on getting out until next christmas. I have a scholarship for tuition but my parents only made me a deal to pay for 4 years. Like Zate said, i already have a turboback, up-pipe, and ic-hoses. I also have his old BOV (haha), a Blitz TT, and a Blitz Boost Gauge. So what i'm really looking to do is just grab some power for cheap but i want obviously to be reliable. I was just curious if anyone had run this setup, or how well the Cobb reflash would be with my setup, but i'm not looking to spend over 300 bones before the dyno tune; cause any more than that would just make me feel dumb that i couldn't wait for one of the big dogs to lower there price or somethin.

After looking at the Cobb website, i guess the new way to look at my question would be, would you rather have an SAFC with possibly a dual-MBC tuned at a local dyno shop, or a premade Stage II AccessECU from Cobb. Both would prob run $400 bucks done deal. The AccessECU would adjust more than just air/fuel but the stage II doesn't account for my up-pipe.

or spend another 100-200 and have 50 hp?
you dont need any tuning software to run nitrous, thats the fuel jets job.
