Default Thoughts / Opinions of WRX

Well let me get the first order of business out of the way. I love my Mazda Speed and that fact that it is 1 out of 1750 (black and orange paint color) makes it even more a joy to drive.

I know I will have to take some financial hit by trading the car in, but it is par to the course. I'd like to try and possibly get a used 02 with low miles, I don't plan on buying new.

Some of my questions are basic ones. Are there any little querks about the WRX that I should know about. How is the car when it comes to taking modifications? When it comes to Mastro, do they have someone in the service department...i.e. Service advisor's that are somewhat automotively inclined?..long story. As well is Mastro cool with modifying cars and still upholding your warranty? Over all are you happy with your WRX?

I am not sure if I will go threw Mastro when it comes to purchasing a car but I have to have a warranty, period.

Yeah well one main reason I have been wanting to get rid of the car is that the dealerships are very up tight about modding. The guys at Courtesy Mazda said my radio was sqeaking because I had either run a turbo timer wire or guage wire past it and it was chaffing. I am a automotive technician first off, and I'm in my work uniform laughting at this guy's idiotic comment. The guy was also kind enought to tell me that installing those things would void my warranty. Ever since then I have backed off doing serious things to my car, which isn't what I want to do!

02s had some clutch shudder, but most owners with the problem have probably already gotten the revised OEM clutch or replaced with an aftermarket unit. The tranny can be a prob if you really beat on the car. I would recommend bushings and short shifter to start, along with upgraded engine and motor mounts, all of which improve the accuracy of the shirt action. I bent a $75 part when I missed a 1-2 just goofing off, but cracking the case was going to cost 2 times that or more.

The car is pretty strong and really doesn't rattle much after 2+ years, with 1.5 of those years on stiff suspension and larger wheels.

Get rid of that Mazda and get something fun.

The only problem I've had with my WRX is passing mazda speeds as they try to keep up. jfwy
Just playing, I'd say the only real weak link is the stock tranny if driven improperly.
