Default EJ20/22/25 swaps...

why arent they as popular as the dreaded SR swaps ?

I think i am going to start a bandwagon..hehe.. i am in the process of replacing my sucky little mustang with a nice 2 door impreza that will eventually house a nice EJ22T... one of the strongest stock blocks subaru made.. and heart of the infamous 22B..

I would have thought getting EJ20's from japan to be just as easy as getting a SR.. and transplanting them into an impreza not too hard.. or is it ?

btw Sam.. you up for assisting with the swap when its time ?

I'm planning on getting the impreza imediately and then waiting on Opie to tell me when the legacy donor car will be available.. i am intendinf to basically "swap" engines in them to still have the legacy working for a DD....

Talking

Because it's still a secret! I'm surprised it isn't as popular either!

The "donor" car is still being stalked! It hasn't been put up for sale.....yet.....

I think the primary factor is expese. The SR motors are fairly cheap and fairly easy to find. STi motors with ECUs, especially for the version 7, are hard to find. The old Legacy motors are definitely not a bad idea, but most people target the ~400bhp level for street driving, so a stock block EJ20 does just fine. I would rather do the STi short block thing, put another pound of boost in the car and seek out a 6-speed donor car. I'm not planning on ever running huge boost on the street, so closed deck is more or less overkill for me. If I had the money to throw away, I'd pick up an entire EJ25T with AVCS heads and ECU. Would be a nice, clean swap and my FMIC would bolt right up. This is probable the route I will go when the car has a few more miles on it.

thats the real problem i think..no one around here is all that "familiar" with the swaps.. but i think we have enough people with the right tools.. shops.. and knowledge to pull it off..
