Im still here! actually in school....should be doing my work LOL.

ill comment on this in a min!!
(I would never do this)
My first question i must ask, why do you want to make it RWD?
unless you plan to drift there is no point and a slight down side. You are also going to spend alot of time and money doing this.

Some things to consider before doing this. If you keep the stock Diff! dont get bigger tires. Id get a R180 if i had 245's on the back, But you would be taking a big risk on the stock tranny. thats if you have a wrx!

One thing you need to realize before you want to do anything to your drivetrain. The WRX gears are plastic! and going RWD will put more stress on them!!!!

to sum things up! its a waste of money, time and labor to do this.

FWIW: there's a converted RWD Outback here in town setup for drifting with a R200 rear.

BAM!!

I built myself a rear subframe that will accept a short-nosed R200 as found in S13s and S14s. I also made custom front and rear uprights to accept OEM Nissan axles (which are readily available) and use J30 venterd disc brakes rear and FC Turbo II brakes up front with some serious steering angle. Transmission is a early version (pre-99) gearbox coupled to a 2000+ center section.

I've been driving and drifting it on a regular basis for almost 3 years now and it has been holding up well. For anything over 250-ish RWHP, I'd reccomend converting to a true RWD transmission. I'm planning on using a G35 6-speed transmission when I perform my Phase II engine swap.

Why RWD? It really wakes up the already excellent handling of the symmetrical Subaru design and allows a more intuitive feeling car. I will whole-heartedly agree that it adds extra strain on the transmission, but most of this is due to the thrust forces on the center section rather than abuse to the gearbox. I'm still on my 165,000 mile-old gearbox, but I have gone through a few center sections with some catastrophic results.

BTW, I have a welded early version center section that I'd let go for cheap. PM me if interested.

It is. I love the car, and I love that little kids and drifters alike glom on to it since it's a drivetrain-confused wagon.

Also BTW, my name is Mike and I am a technician/"fabricator" at XAT Racing

haha, I remembered correctly...it was xat
quite a nice setup...I must say, I really do miss having my car rwd as it was a lot more fun and a lot more of a driver's car that way.
