Friend's WRX, were modding it, need advice/opinions
Im up here in ohio helping my friend work on his 2003 WRX.
Question about the handling...
We have since determined that RE92's are crap... Rims and wider tires will play a nice role in helping him handle.
Sway bars..... It feels like the car gives to much when doing a slalom. Is it a good idea to go with sway bars over shocks first with these cars?
I know Vishnu and some other guys have a killer revalved shocks but that job is more involved and cost to much right now. So would sway bars be worth while.
Next question- Ive noticed this with Eclipses and WRX's... the synchros dont seem to mesh fast enough.. So you cant power shift. For future reference are there better synchros out there so u can shift faster?

i bought the progess rear bar, adjustable, and comes with all the mounting hardware, including the triangular bar mounts.. good choice is the rear bar, i noticed a BIG difference... then, pick up the endlinks while your at it, and chuck them on there.. oh and the re 92's are bullshit..youre absolutely correct... most of the suspension stuff like that will help, but the difference some of it makes might be subjective.....

Like stated above, do the rear sway bar first with endlinks, then move onto tires and strut tower bars.
Later on you can do Springs & struts (KYB AGX's just came out for the WRX) or do Koni inserts. Or you can co balls out and opt for coil overs.
Performance wise do the up pipe and down pipe, then the rest of the exaust system. After that you can ECUTEK it.
Be prepared to spend quite a bit more than you would normally spend to mod a honda.

Everyone has already made some really good points that should help get you on your way fairly quickly. Personally I would start from the outside-in with the suspension. Replace the wheels/tires, then sway bar, links and strut tower braces. If he wants more, move to spring/shocks or struts.
Have a ball and remember to keep it shiny side up

syncros have to line up before they engage so there will always be hesitation in between shifts dogboxes are the only transmission that i know of that you can slam around and not break stuff except 5th and reverse as i have already broke the syncrnizers in mine
but i wouldn't buy this until your stock breaks or your making huge power
but they do make hardened syncro sets mrt and challack are the only companys that i know of

well if your feeling ballsy full throttle launches are always the best but i know a lot of people would probably disagree with me but everytime i went to the track i would launch at full and 1st was fine
also bleed the clutch off don't drop it you will burn it up a little but you get a much better jump off the line

zdriver where at in ohio are you?
to launch it..what I do it flutter the gas between 4000-5500rpms and when I'm just at 4000rpms going upward..I start to let up on the clutch..I dont drop it, but I dont ride it to the point where it smells.
this has worked great for me..I got a 1.8 60' on a 21act.
*note* I dont have a wrx but a awd talon
