Funny, I saw this same thing done on frontage a number of years ago on a missed 2-3 shift on the bottle, they ended up welding a piece of aluminum diamond plate over it 
Best part was, it was a borrowed intake!!
I was just about to say a little JB Weld and some diamond plating and she'll be as good as new.
