another way to tell without popping the hood is the tail lights. Of course those can be swapped but so could the engine. The 94-95 cars came STOCK with tail lights that have horizontal lenses (ie the opening stretches from left to right). The 96-98 tail lights are vertical - with the 3 openings going up and down. If I confused you - this is what I mean.
