Meet the legendary 1973 Ferrari Dino 246 GTS that made history during the 1975 Cannonball Run, driven by none other than Jack May, renowned SCCA racer, automotive journalist, and original owner of this stunning Bianco-over-Rosso icon. In this exclusive Mecum interview,

Jack May shares the adrenaline-fueled story behind the record-setting coast-to-coast Cannonball Baker Sea to Shining Sea Memorial Trophy Dash, completing the journey from New York to Los Angeles in just 35 hours and 53 minutes alongside Rick Cline.

That’s an average speed of 83 MPH , all behind the wheel of this very car. Jack May’s thrilling tale isn’t just about breaking records, it’s a rare glimpse into a rebellious era of American car culture. The 1973 Ferrari Dino 246 GTS remains in remarkably original, unrestored condition and now makes its way to

Mecum Monterey, held August 14-16, 2025, at the Del Monte Golf Course. Don’t miss your chance to see the car that defined an era and hear directly from Jack May as he relives this once-in-a-lifetime journey. This isn’t just a car, it’s a time capsule and a piece of high-speed history.

The Cannonball Baker Sea-To-Shining-Sea Memorial Trophy Dash may be no more, but you can have a piece of that legacy with this Ferrari Dino. (The spirit of the Cannonball Run does live, however, with the Tire Rack One Lap of America Presented by Grassroots Motorsports.)

This 246 GTS won the 1975 event with a record-setting time of 35 hours and 53 minutes, piloted by Jack May and co-driver Rick Cline.

Today, the car shows some 50,000 miles and is offered in “highly original” condition.
