I wouldn't think this is a fuel pump issue at all. It's sensor related. I am referring to your intake throttle body and blade. You would have to hold the throttle in the open position to see if there's any coking or carbon build up. Just looking from the outside in really isn't going to give you the whole picture. When you open it up, often you can see build up just behind the blade and inside.
If thats not the issue, I'd look at cleaning your MAF sensor with MAF sensor cleaner and/or a electronic contact cleaner.
