Regarding peoples comments about the blower, this is my take on it. Many years ago, early '80's, I used to deliver the local paper in Heidelberg West in Melbourne. This included the industrial area. One night whilst doing this, one of the places, a small workshop which I'm pretty sure was towards the end of Orr St., which was usually shut when I delivered the paper, was open. I walked in to drop the paper on the front desk and there was the most incredible, or so it seemed to me, a 16 year old male, range of metal working "stuff". Lathes, milling machines etc. The bloke who owned it was a toolmaker. He saw me and we had a bit of a chat about the stuff. It turns out he claimed he was the person who built the blower. He said that he was out at the Calder Park drags and someone had a blower let go in a big way. They pulled it from the engine and just dumped it in a bin. He grabbed it, took it back to the factory, welded and cleaned up the massive crack that was in the compressor housing, attached it to the engine and then ran a pulley/belt set up from the back of the engine to the back of the blower. Cost - basically stuff all. I once came across a Mad Max fan forum and mentioned this. The moderator of the forum said that the person I was describing sounded like the person credited with the work. I don't have any names, the location is basically correct, can't remember the name of the company etc but it being the early 80's the bloke had no reason to be spinning me a line so I tend to believe him.
