you seem to forget that fascist Italy was against us but not the normal public. that was why Germany invaded Italy towards the end as they couldn't rely on the loyalty of the Italian people. I agree there's a lot of artistic licence for some bits but it is possible for romances between enemies for example German prisoners and English women many stayed at the end of the war married.
