loss prevention's job is really to monitor employees, shrink levels, inventory. Its well known in the industry not to worry about the shop lifter as to worry about internal theft.
ex: old Lp manager has the best apprehension numbers in the district but zero with internal decided to leave because he didnt feel appreciated enough. ok he stopped a bunch of shop lifters, avg take about 50-60 range (Sports Authority). New Lp manager comes in and after about 6 months catches my 2nd man playing with the cash registers. Making some cashiers look bad, voiding sales etc. We stopped counting at 15,000.00 in a 6 month period. (he worked for us about 18 months, nicest guy you could meet. He would give you his shirt off his back type of guy. 2nd catches head cashier passing merchandise to his father and family, we think we got hit for about 25-30 ths. So we use to say yeah let the punk kid walk out with the jordans and worry more about internally.
